Here are some of the many people whose lives ReFIT has improved through home renovations.
This gentleman was paraplegic due to a spinal cord injury. He and his wife needed a wheelchair ramp to get him in and out of his house. He was blown away by the ramp we built for him.
An older women living in her own home, took in her sister who has Parkinson's disease, Alzheimer's and has had a stroke. ReFIT added a wheelchair ramp to the home so that the homeowner can take her sister to appointments.
Limited mobility and a wheelchair prevented Patricia from entering her home’s bathroom. ReFIT designed and built a wheelchair accessible bathroom; completely gutting out the existing bathroom and installing an accessible vanity, toilet and roll–in shower.
This retired Tigard couple’s home bathroom had become difficult to use, and they had difficulty maneuvering the stoop at the home’s front entrance. ReFIT added a concrete ramp and widened the doorway at the front door, and added a handrail to the home’s garage entrance for safer home entry. A new roll–in shower means that bathing and bathroom use are made much easier and safer and can be done independently.
Mobility issues and a motorized wheelchair meant that Homer and his wife encountered mobility and safety issues within their home. ReFIT widened doorways inside the home, added grab bars in the bathroom, and added a wheelchair ramp and concrete pathway to the outside of the home.
The oldest child in this Southeast Portland family, Kelsey, is severely disabled. She is confined to a specially equipped wheelchair, must eat through a feeding tube, and requires constant supervision. ReFIT remodeled the kitchen, and widened a doorway so that Kelsey could stay in the kitchen while mother Lynn prepares special formulated foods for Kelsey.
This wheelchair-using veteran struggled with the four stair steps on the entryways of his Northeast Portland home until ReFIT’s dedicated volunteers and DAV worked together to add a deck and a wheelchair ramp to give him safer and easier access to his home.
